Zion National Park is beautiful! I hope the pictures convince you all to go there
While we were there we hiked The Narrows. You are basically hiking up a river in a canyon, it was awesome. I really do think it was the most fun hike I’ve ever been on. A word of advice if you decide to do this hike… rent the hiking poles, it was the best $8 we’ve ever spent and saved us on more than one occasion.
So today I was going to post about Zion and how absolutely amazing it is and try to convince everyone they need to go there at least once in their life. That’s on hold until Wednesday now; instead, I will be writing on how I became incredibly lost and put someone off… again not sure how I did either one.
So I went out for a jog ( Week 1 Day 1 of a couch to 8k program so not really a jog, more like a walk with some jogging thrown in there… I was still horribly out of breath though for this being the “easy” start) today and ran past the road I needed to turn on. Now they did not use the grid pattern when doing the civic design for UK, which is understandable since it’s so old, but apparently I crossed 2 fairly large roads and never knew it. It wasn’t until I jogged passed a restaurant I ate at the other day that I figured out where I was and knew how to get back.
I ended up heading to the gardens (which sounds lovely and it is but it’s really just a park) for my cool down, and as I walked past one of the main buildings I saw free art showing and decided to stop in (remember, I’m in workout clothes and trainers [gym shoes]). I walked in and there were I’d say ten odd older women there whom I thought were walking through as I was until I realized they were running it and it was really more of a social gathering than an art exhibit.
One woman approached me and she began something like this:
Woman: “Are you on a run?”
Me: “I was on my cool down when I saw the sign and stopped in”
Woman: “How far did you run? Are you training for anything?”
Me: “No, just getting in shape. It’s my first day so I only did intervals.”
Woman: “Well, you look as though you are fairly fit already.”
Me with a laugh: ” Yeah, it looks that way doesn’t it. But I can’t breathe when I walk up the stairs so I figured It’s time to do something about that {chuckle}.”
Woman now put off for some reason: “Oh, well enjoy and have a look around.” As she walks away and two other women who had been following the conversation on the other said of the room are both still starring at me.
Me very awkwardly to nobody really: “It’s quite warm in here, I think I’ll finish my cool down. I like the chickens though (the chicken artwork on the wall).”
Exit scene… confused, still confused
If anyone has an idea of what I said please comment below so I can be sure not to say it again, I would greatly appreciate it!
Also… Towel is also a pad or sanitary napkin. And if anyone who reads this knows a trick of how to use these dryers please post!!!!! I’ve been drying clothes for two days now.
We hiked the peek-a-boo trail and it was beautiful! We also saw a rock formation we want named Gorilla Head! Give it a minute, you will all see it!
To get to the trail, hike it, and back it was about a 5 mile loop.

Do you see the gorilla head? ———->
Bryce Canyon was straight out of an old western. It’s funny because every park you go to is different. It’s all desert and desolate which make them similar in some way, but they all have different bushes, rock formations, or just a different feel. At Bryce Canyon every turn you hiked around I expected John Wayne to ride up on horseback.

This is a great day trip from Zion!
I’ve made it to the UK! It’s been quite busy and still don’t have my head on straight yet, but I am already discovering so many differences between here and the states. Some good, some bad. Examples:
Good: They put energy usage ratings on apartments when you search for them so you can estimate utilities.
Bad: A napkin is not a napkin as we think of it but a sanitary napkin as in pad… so if you ask the bartender for one they will look at you funny.
Great: Towel heaters
Can’t say enough good things about these! Love them!
Saddens me every time I think of it: The washing machine. It’s tiny, takes for-ev-er (said as in the movie Sandlot), and the washer and dryer are in one, but you can only dry half a load at a time
I’m sure I will have more soon… probably a lot more of words that have alternate meanings lol.
Cheers!
Sorry for not posting this week!! Everything is a little disheveled with moving and all. But I will begin again next week continuing with the western road trip… and then hopefully into England! Yay!
This past week we took a road trip from Salt Lake City to Phoenix. It was awesome!!! We stopped in Salt Lake City, Park City, Provo, Bryce Canyon, Zion, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, and Sedona. Although I don’t have pictures for each place, I do have stories!!!
Zombie apocalypse. If they were going to film a movie about it, they should film it in Salt Lake City on a Sunday. You wouldn’t even need to shut down any streets… seriously. We arrived Saturday late night and when we began walking around Sunday we were confused where were all the people? Were we missing something? In fact we were, after texting a former native I found out it was Sunday (yes, I realize I previously stated that), which means it’s the day of rest, or church, and that’s where everyone was… everyone. Maybe they were really there waiting out the zombie apocalypse.
The Mormon Temple
So funny thing… you can’t go in. Apparently, no one goes in. We asked if that have tours on certain days… nope. ”But did you see the model?” I did not respond that I did not walk all this way to see a doll house size temple, just thought it. Somehow the awe was lost.
